I have recently come across a large amount of Capital Stock shares for something called the Arizona Development Company, dated 1900. Each certificate is for one-thousand shares of $5.00 each, and we have at least 1 dozen of these. Does anyone have any useful information regarding these certificates? It would be greatly appreciated.

I recently found and old stock certificate my great aunt had left me. I was wondering if it had any value today. The certificate is from the Gibraltar Uranium and Oil Company dated August 3, 1955. The certificate states the company was incorporated in Colorado in 1955.

I am inquiring about the Joe Roughneck monuments. One is standing on our family land in Chico Texas dedicated to my great grandfather, who dug the first oil well in Wise County Texas. The plaques on the monument have fallen of and since been stolen. I have been trying to research these monuments to find out if there is still a group in existance that maintained records of these monuments. I have not had any luck.

I would like to know if there is anyone I can contact to find out if I can get replacement plaques for the monument and at least find out what the verbage was and find someone to re-manufacture the plaques myself.

I am near completion of my book, SPEEDQUEST, concerning my building the natural gas fueled The Blue Flame, which set the world land speed record in 1970. This was the last American car to set the record and the only GREEN machine to do it. Does AOGHS have any publishing contacts to whom I might submit the manuscript?

In sorting my parents paperwork, I found two certificates for 10 shares each of Harris-Fisher Oil Company stocks out of Fort Worth, Texas dated July 29, 1922 and made out in the name of a great-uncle. Does anyone have information on these certificates?

In March 1921, a majority interest in the Provident Oil & Refining
Company of Houston was acquired by the Chappell Oil Company of Wyoming.
Provident Oil & Refining had been active in Eastland County, Texas
and planned further drilling operations in the Toyah Shallow field and
Pecos Valley Territory. Provident Oil had also searched for oil in
central Montana (Cat Creek anticline) and Wyoming's Salt Creek Field.
In 1922, controlling interest in the Chappell Oil Co. was purchased by
the Mutual Oil Company of Denver, Colorado - including the company's two
wells in Salt Creek that were producing 6,300 barrels of crude oil
daily.

Mary Owens Oil Company published enthusiastic newspaper ads trying to solicit investors, but left little else behind. The Texas Railroad Commission may have better records since the Mary Owens Oil Co. was indeed active in the Humble Oil Field in Harris County on the Upper Gulf Coast. The field was largely depleted when the Mary Owens Oil Company searched for both oil and investors after World War I with ads proclaiming:

"Small Investors Reap Rich Returns... Probably in no other business in the world have such staggering profits been made as in the Fascinating, Fast and Furious Business of Oil Producing... Big Special Offer on the Mary Owens Oil Company - A Going Producing Company Which Has Passed the Uncertain Initial States. $100 of Stock for $80 - Easy Terms." (Bridgeport Telegram, July 18, 1918)

"$30,000 PROFITS on each $100 an actual record; $5 or $10 monthly may bring you quick money in going company with 11 producing wells, refinery, and hundreds acres of rich holdings; thousands in profits divided last year; opprotunity open to every man and woman for short time; free particulars tell you how; act today. Mary Owens Oil Company, Department 143, Houston, Texas." (El Paso Herald, May 16, 1919)
